Today, I will be reviewing an Eagle Rare Barrel Pick from Oak Point Fresh Market located in Watson/Central, Louisiana. This is the Kentucky Straight Bourbon 10 Year release. This is one of the last picks at Oak Point by the Whiskey Professor, Nathan Steele. The pick was chosen in Spring/Summer 2023 and made its way to the store December 22, 2023. The barrel was put out on Friday at a solid price of roughly $40.00 with a limit of 1 per customer. The barrel sold out within 3 hours. It is amazing on how much traffic can be driven when Eagle Rare is available to customers.
Backstory:
As most of the local customers of Oak Point know, Nathan Steele was the Liquor Manager for both stores until recently moving out of the area for a different opportunity in the Spirits Industry. In Nathan's time at Oak Point, he has delivered many solid barrel picks for his customers. Nathan has always had a solid palate and his choices of barrels have been second to none in the local area. It is my privilege to be reviewing one of Nathan's final picks for Oak Point and to have been able to enjoy many of his picks as a consumer of Oak Point.
Nose:
Great nose. A solid blend of honey with orange and slight oak blends.
Palate:
A nice dry and leathery flavor profile with hints of nuts and semi sweet chocolate notes that make the dryness not affect the taste.
Finish:
The finish is short and dry like wine. The semi sweet notes comes back with orange peel and a touch of oak on the end. A lot of Eagle Rare has some strong Oak Notes and this pour definitely has a nice blend of sweet and earthy tones.
Overall:
This is a very solid Eagle Rare pick. Due to high demand, it is always nice to get an Eagle Rare bottle and a plus when it's a barrel pick. The price is right at $40.00 is also nice with the rising prices of whiskey recently. I really enjoyed the blend of oak and leather with semi sweetness of chocolate and the touch of orange. The dry finish does not take away from the flavor and it has a nice after taste that does not linger on your palate.
Rating: 3.85 Stars out of 5 Stars.
